Thrilling Summer Reads
Heading to the beach this summer? We recommend bringing along a book to read. We have a few recommendations here on the Biscayne Shores Blog for page-turning thrillers that you won’t be able to put down. Continue reading this post to find out a little about each of our picks. The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware “With surprising twists, spine-tingling turns, and a setting that proves as uncomfortably claustrophobic as it is eerily beautiful, Ruth Ware offers up another taut and intense read in The Woman in Cabin 10 — one that will leave even the most sure-footed reader restlessly uneasy long after the last page is turned.” The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood “Set in the near future, it describes life in what was once the United States and is now called the Republic of Gilead, a monotheocracy that has reacted to social unrest and a sharply declining birth rate by reverting to, and going beyond, the repressive intolerance of the original Puritans. The regime takes the Book of Genesis absolutely at its word, with bizarre consequences for the women and men in its population.” Into The Water by Paula Hawkins “A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged.” Pandemic (The Extinction Files #1) by A.G. Riddle “In Africa, a mysterious outbreak spreads quickly. Teams from the CDC and WHO respond, but they soon learn that there is more to the epidemic than they believed. It may be the beginning of a global experiment — an event that will change the human race forever.” Have you read any good books lately? Share the titles with us in the comments so that we can check them out. Have a fantastic summer here in your beautiful Miami, FL apartment!

Best BBQ Spots in Miami
Welcome back to the Biscayne Shores Blog! We are celebrating National Barbecue Month this May by highlighting a few of the best barbecue joints here in Miami, FL. Read on to find out a little about each place including how far away they are for our apartment community. Mr. Boneless (3.5 miles away) Terry Watts started selling food on Miami street corners nearly two decades ago. After years of hosting cookouts for friends, pleas to turn his hobby into a business grew relentless. Hence, Mr. Boneless was born. And his regulars swear by his ribs ($12 platter/$8 sandwich) and chicken ($10 platter/$7 sandwich) — no bones, of course, and cooked slow over oak. People’s Bar-B-Que (8.1 miles away) Oak is the wood of choice for barbecuing at People's, the Overtown restaurant that's been serving barbecue and soul food specialties for four decades. The menu includes oxtails, pork chops, and ham shanks, but most diners come for the tender chicken and meaty ribs, both bathed in a mildly tangy barbecue sauce. Sides such as collard greens, baked beans, and black-eyed peas are pure, delightful Dixie fare. Generous portions leave little room for homemade pineapple-flecked bread pudding, or any of the numerous desserts that change daily. Los Fuegos (7.8 miles away) Born from a passion for the ancient art of South American live-fire cooking, Argentine grill master Francis Mallmann creates a contemporary asado experience with an open-fire kitchen, local ingredients and a gaucho’s touch to transform traditional rustic recipes into sophisticated, savory dishes. The restaurant is located in Miami Beach at the FAENA Hotel. Sparky’s Roadside Barbecue (8.7 miles away) Sparky's is a down-home hangout serving up BBQ staples, hearty sides & craft beer. The owners use a blend of some two dozen seasonings for the rub, and a mixture of young hickory and apple woods shipped in from Maine for the grill. The pulled pork sandwich is equally fetching, featuring the same potent smoke and juice. Do you have a favorite Miami barbecue joint? Let us know in the comments so that we can try it out! What Not to Get Your Mom for Mother's Day
Mother’s Day is coming up (Sunday, May 13th) and the Biscayne Shores Blog wants to help you avoid the mistake of getting your mom something lame or something that she will never use by sharing a post about what not to get your mom. Another Cheesy Mug You know what we are talking about. The novelty mugs that have cheesy sayings on them like “World’s Best Mom” and things like that. You mom doesn’t want or need another one of these mugs, so do her a favor and don’t buy or make her one this year. An alternative could be to get her favorite brand of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate that she will actually drink. Cleaning Supplies Getting your wife or mom cleaning supplies for Mother’s Day, her birthday, or any other major holiday is unacceptable and a sure fire way to end up in the dog house . She cleans up after you all the time and giving her cleaning supplies is insulting and an easy way to ruin a day that was meant to be special. Macaroni Art or Cheap Jewelry Yes, maybe it was cute when you were a kid but macaroni art and jewelry is not as cool as you think it is. It will probably just end up in a drawer somewhere taking up space. Why not make your mom a delicious pasta dinner instead? Food is something that everyone can enjoy and appreciate! A Gym Membership Though your intentions may have been pure, getting your mom a gym membership is definitely going to send the wrong message. Just don’t go there, trust us. Exercise equipment is also a no go, unless she specifically asked for it. We hope you enjoyed reading our post and that you learned what not to do. Have fun celebrating Mother’s Day with you mom this year here in Miami, FL and avoiding the pitfalls of getting her a bad gift. Share your good gift ideas with the rest of our apartment community in the comments.
