Laundry Day Etiquette-image

Having an on-site laundry facility as one of the amenities at Biscayne Shores apartments is one of the many reasons our residents like living here. In today’s blog we’ve got some tips about laundry room etiquette to share with our apartment community.   Sort before you go. Take time to sort your laundry before leaving your apartment. That way your loads will be all ready to go and you won’t take up time and space at the laundry room.   Make a laundry tote with everything you’ll need for doing your laundry. Include things like laundry detergent, fabric softener, and stain removal products.   Don’t lose socks! Provide each member of your household with a zippered mesh bag for dirty socks. On laundry day, collect, zip, wash, dry, and then return. No more lost socks in random machines.   Be courteous and clean up after yourself. Wipe up spills quickly and be especially mindful to clean up any spilled bleach.   If at all possible, stay in the laundry room while your laundry is going. If you must leave, set a timer on your phone so you’ll be sure to be back in time to switch out the laundry. Conversely, if you are waiting on a machine, give the owner of the clothes a few minutes to get back before you unload their machine (also, don’t put their clothes into the dryer, they may have things in the load that need to be air-dried).   Plan to do your laundry during off-peak times so you won’t be there when everyone else needs to use the machines, too. If you must be there during peak hours, be sure to be pleasant.   Having a place to do laundry just a few steps from your apartment sure beats driving around Miami on a Saturday night trying to find a laundromat that is clean, reasonably priced, and open. What are your tips for making laundry day go smoothly? Please share in the comments so we can all benefit.

Cool Treats for Summer Heat-image

Last time we posted about ways to stay cool in the summer heat, and in today’s blog post we will continue that theme by focusing on frozen treats that are easy to make and fun to eat. It’s amazing how quickly simply eating something that is cold can help us cool down. Try one of these recipes the next time the mercury rises.   Frozen Pistachio Pie This frozen pistachio pie recipe from the Cutestuff Cooks blog features the distinctive taste of pistachios in a creamy frozen dessert that is sure to please. The chocolate drizzled over the top adds just the right finishing touch.   Frozen Juice Bars Frozen treats don’t have to mean unhealthy treats. Try these healthy fruit and cream bars for a good-for-you option. The recipe includes both strawberries and cream and peaches and cream. Yum!   Slush Slushy punch recipes come from an earlier era, but they are sure to hit the spot on a warm day, and they can be prepared ahead of time, too. We like this recipe for a banana and pineapple slush punch version from Our Best Bites.   Lemon Sorbet Lemon is about as refreshing as it gets, and lemon sorbet takes it a step further, producing a fresh, exciting, cooling, flavorful treat. Sorbet has more sugar than ice cream, but less fat, and it’s non-dairy, too — making it a good choice for those who have lactose issues. Here is an easy lemon sorbet recipe to try.   Frozen Hot Chocolate Hot chocolate is normally something we drink to warm up in the wintertime, but this frozen hot chocolate sounds perfect for a hot summer day. It even looks like hot chocolate, complete with whipped cream on top.   If making frozen treats yourself is not on your list of things to do this summer, perhaps a trip to the nearest ice cream shop is in order. Serendipity Creamery (421 NW 26th St, Miami, FL) and Lakay Tropical Ice Cream (91 NE 54th St #2, Miami, FL 33137 33127) are within five miles of Biscayne Shores apartments, making an ice cream run convenient!   Enjoy! Thanks for reading today’s post!

Cooling Down When the Heat Is Up-image

Hibernating in your Biscayne Shores apartment is one way to beat the summer heat. Unfortunately, we can’t hibernate all summer to escape the rising temperatures. The summer heat in Miami, FL can be relentless, which is why today’s blog post outlines some tips to help you keep your cool when you need to be out and about in the heat of the day.   — Keep a spray bottle filled with peppermint water handy (just a drop or two of peppermint oil is all it takes) and spritz yourself to cool down. Chilling or partially freezing the water before you head out is a good idea too.   — Find the shade. It’s amazing how just a few degrees difference in temperature can make us feel cooler. Perhaps the effect is largely psychological, but there’s no doubt about it, seeking out the shade on a hot day feels good.   — Greener is cooler. Seek out green areas for the coolness factor. Asphalt and concrete retain and reflect the heat, making for hot spots. Grassy areas simply aren’t as hot.   — Wear loose, flowing clothing to expedite evaporation of sweat. Natural fibers are great at wicking away sweat, and some of the newer synthetic fabrics, Coolmax and Nano-Tex for example, work well too. If possible, lose the shoes, bare feet are cooler.   — Drink water. Lots and lots of water. Remaining hydrated is one of the best ways to stay cool. Avoid beverages that contain alcohol, caffeine, or lots of sugar, which tend to dehydrate —or at least cut down on them. Eat lighter foods too; salads are just the thing.   Following these tips will help you survive the dog days of summer in admirable style. What are your favorite tips and tricks to stay cool on hot summer days? Share in the comments of the Biscayne Shores Blog. Thanks for reading and here’s to a cool summer.

Apartment-Friendly Decorating-image

Decorating an apartment can be a bit of an adventure. Decorating to reflect your own personality while respecting the are rules and restrictions of our apartments here at Biscayne Shores can be a bit challenging. To help out, in this post we have five apartment-friendly decorating tips for our residents to use and enjoy. These tips are just meant to be starting points—feel free to expand on the tips we give you and go crazy (just make sure your decorating efforts are apartment safe, of course)!   Plants Let your space breathe a little. Plants add instant color to a room, and they’re easy to incorporate into any style of decor. Use fresh cut flowers to change the feel of your space each week, grow herbs in your kitchen, and grow succulents and cacti in the living room and bedrooms.   Rugs Rugs add instant warmth to any space. Whether you’re embracing a white, faux-fur look or decorating with crazy colors and patterns, a rug is the perfect finishing touch for any room. Rugs can help tie an entire room (or theme) together.   Washi Tape Change up your apartment’s look frequently by using washi tape. Washi tape can transform any wall into a work of art. We recommend using geometric patterns, varying colors, and different images to create a wallpaper-like look.   Tapestries Tapestries are another great way to liven up your walls. Tapestries come in all different sorts of shapes, patterns, and sizes. You can have a view of the Sahara, Paris, or even the mountains with the right tapestry.   Bedding Bedding is an easy way to change the look of any bedroom in your apartment home. Use bedding as the centerpiece of your theme. Bedding should compliment the room, express your personality, and, of course, be comfortable!   We hope that you have fun decorating your Miami, FL apartment this month. Thanks for reading; we’ll see you next month!

This Yelp review gives you an idea what to expect: “Comedy, especially improv, can be one of those things where you're either laughing out loud or wondering what the hell you got yourself into by coming. Fortunately Villian Theater, or "VT" as they called it, was the former. I laughed, I laughed, I cringed, and I laughed some more.” — Andy V   Gramps (5 miles away) Tuesday night is improv night at Gramps. Come by and see some great comedy at this trendy Miami bar. But don’t take our word for it, check out this review:   “You just can't go wrong with this place. Indoor seating is limited but there is also plenty of outdoor seating.
